One of the most straightforward, yet often forgotten, ways to market your mobile app is to promote it to your existing customer base. Below are a couple examples we recently noticed of companies driving awareness of their iPhone app to their existing users.
OpenTable is the popular online service that allows you to book restaurant reservations from your computer or mobile phone. When you visit opentable.com from your iPhone, the following page is displayed:

The user is alerted to the superior user experience of the iPhone app, but is still offered the option of continuing onto the full website if they require full functionality.
Another example is Yahoo! promoting its Finance iPhone App to users when they are browsing the site online, offering a direct link for them to download their app on the computer.

Remember that any current customer touch point – marketing emails, your website, direct mailings, your storefront – is a potential place to promote your app.
