The Life and Times of AdMob

We are excited to announce that the beta version of our House Ads product is now live!  To learn more about what House Ads is and why we built the product, please visit our announcement blog post from Ali Diab, our VP of Product Management.  The goal of this post is to walk through the steps required for an AdMob publisher to get started showing House Ads on their site or app.

The first step is to login to your AdMob account and click on the House Ads Beta link at the top of your “Sites & Apps” page.   This page is where you will eventually manage all of your house ads.

Creating Your Ads
If you are creating an ad for an iPhone app or site, select Create iPhone House Ad.  For all other mobile sites or Android applications, select Create Mobile Web House Ad.  Follow the instructions to create your ad and target it to the appropriate audience.  You will also be asked which of your sites or apps you would like the house ad to appear on.

Managing Your House Ads
After you create your first House Ad, your ad will appear on the primary House Ads page.  If you create several House Ads for one or many sites or apps, you can manage them all from this page on the website.

Enabling House Ads
To enable your House Ads on a given site, select the “Sites & Apps” tab and click on the name of the site you want to enable.  Click on the House Ads bar to enable the site.  Then use the slider to determine what percentage of your inventory you would like to have filled with house ads.  If you select 10%, one of the house ads you have enabled for the site will be shown on 1 in 10 ad requests on your site.

Remember you do not get paid for showing your own House Ads.   If you select “unfilled inventory”, a house ad will only be shown when we do not have a paid ad to show, so you will not lose any potential earnings.

A few things to keep in mind:
•    House Ads is completely free for all publishers
•    House Ads is available immediately – no code upgrade is required
•    If you are an iPhone developer, you do not need to resubmit your app to the App Store
•    You have the flexibility to set up to 100% of your inventory to House Ads
•    The ads you create must adhere to our content guidelines
•    You cannot use both House Ads or Download Exchange at the same time

Good luck!  Email us at support@admob.com if you have further questions or feedback on this beta release.  We look forward to working with our publishing partners to best utilize this new functionality.
