The Life and Times of AdMob

and so we launch…

So today is the day of the official launch. All the pieces are in place, now I just need to start telling people about AdMob. In terms of the business, things are humming along. With the addition of high traffic partners such as GetJar, we now have over 40,000 clicks per day of inventory to fill, and advertisers are beginning to take up those slots.

I am hopeful that AdMob will eventually become a powerful equalizer on the mobile web and provide some much needed infrastructure. At the beginning, AdMob will allow producers of mobile products and services to reach a mobile audience quickly and easily, and it will enable content publishers to monetize their high traffic sites.

If all goes well, it will do more than that, and begin to act as an equalizing force, leveling the mobile playing field. Independent publishers will be able to expand and diversify their offerings, and independent producers of products and services will be encouraged to develop more creative and useful content. Once they have developed that content and gained traffic via their ads on AdMob, perhaps they will become publishers themselves.

By allowing a fair market to facilitate the exchange of products and content on the mobile web, AdMob can be a democratizing force. The world of mobile content need no longer be the sole domain of a few large companies.

That’s the dream anyways, for now I will take it one day at a time, a few more publishers, then a few more advertisers, then repeat.
